Jammin’ with Ramen

Post written by Jessica (The One Who Doesn’t Share Food)

In 2015, Anita, Marj and I visited New York City. We tried Milk Bar, and I remember I was intrigued with the cereal milk ice cream. I didn’t know if I liked it or not and wanted to try it again to confirm. Fast forward to 2017 and we get to return to Milk Bar!

If you’re not familiar with Momofuku Group, they offer multiple restaurant concepts across Canada and USA and one is the Noodle Bar and Milk Bar, the one I chose for November’s restaurant. Located at 190 University Avenue, right in the heart of the financial district, Toronto’s Momofuku restaurant houses Noodle Bar on the main floor with a Milk Bar upstairs. Noodle Bar is a casual, food-court-like open space. It’s a concept that’s become very popular in Toronto lately and makes for a communal, loud eating space that’s actually quite fun.

We had a full DOOL attendance for the first time in a few months – all 7 of us – and everyone opted for the ramen for their mains. No surprise. It’s what we came for!

Heather’s meal had a spicy theme. She ordered the the Pepper Noodles, a beef sausage, green sichuan pepper, chili bowl and her drink was a refreshing peach habanero craft soda. Zaira had a shiitake night with the Shiitake Buns to start and Ginger Scallion Noodle bowl. I had a pork night with the Pork Belly Buns and Pork Ramen noodle bowl. The other girls had a pork/chicken combo night. A couple of them had BBQ Pork Buns to start and the TanTan Ramen or Ginger Scallion Noodle with Katsu for their main bowls.

Everyone’s meals came really quickly and were eaten just as quickly! We slurped up all that ramen, and all loved our food.

Then, it was time for dessert. We headed up to Milk Bar in pairs and had the cutest shopping experience! They have little grocery baskets and you grab as many cookies, pies and truffles as you want. Head back down to Noodle Bar to pay.

I recommend the Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow cookie! The Compost Cookie and Crack Pie were also favourites among our group. I also got a Crack Pie soft serve and it was heavenly! A nice twist to regular soft serve. Try it and enjoy!

I’d love to return to try the fried chicken large format meal. You need 4-8 people willing to split two whole fried chickens, scallion pancakes, ginger scallion sauce, jalapeno garlic sauce, pickled vegetables, radishes, herbs and tabasco salt. I bet we could show that meal a good time.

Until we eat again.
